St. Louis, MO -- True Inclusion: Creating Communities of Radical Embrace by Brandan Robertson, published by Chalice Press, has been recognized as a finalist in the 21st annual Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards.
In an increasingly fragmented and divisive church and world, True Inclusion is a clarion call for radical embrace of not just the LGBTQ community but all marginalized peoples in our communities.
Chalice Press president and publisher Brad Lyons says that what sets True Inclusion apart from other books on the subject is how the book empowers readers to take what they learn and use it in their lives.
“So many books inspire us to do great things. What many of them lack is utility – strategies to make that inspiration become reality. ‘That was a great book; now what?’ Chalice Press books aim to be useful, and that utility was in our minds from the moment True Inclusion was born. We had been searching for a book to help congregations make the leap from talking the talk to walking the walk when it comes to LGBTQ inclusion.”
The annual Indies book awards program by Foreword Magazine represents part of their mission to discover, review, and share the best books from university and independent publishers. Finalists represent the best books published in 2018. After more than 2,000 individual titles spread across 56 genres were submitted for consideration, finalists was determined by Foreword’s editorial team. Winners will be decided by an expert team of booksellers and librarians—representing Foreword’s readership—from across the country.
The complete list of finalists can be found at https://www.forewordreviews.com/awards/finalists/2018/.
“Determining the INDIES Finalists is such a rewarding process,” said Victoria Sutherland, founder/publisher of Foreword Reviews. “Each year we are reminded what a vital part of publishing indie presses occupy, and knowing what the recognition could mean to an individual book inspires us to provide our finalist judges with the best choices to help them determine the winners. We take this privilege very seriously.”
Winners in each genre—along with Editor’s Choice Prize winners and Foreword’s INDIE Publisher of the Year—will be announced June 14, 2019.
